TJ’s Hero Shop
I was going to get a haircut like I normally do every 2 weeks for my usual one on top and skin fade with no points on the side. Usually there is a lot of good conversation happening in the barbershop and that day was no exception. The barbers along with the customers there were all raving about this deli next store called TJ’s Hero shop. Literally everyone was giving it such high praise labeling it a must try spot. Being the foodie that I am, I decided to try this hero shop and I just wished I had done so sooner. Its no secret that Long Island is definitely not short on deli shops or hero places but this place lets the food do the talking.
The hero shop is not exactly an upscale looking place, but it is clean inside and looks like your typical deli. The owner and workers are friendly. As soon as you step inside, you can smell a variety of flavors that will seduce your senses ranging from bacon to garlic and oven toasted breads smells.
The majority of the people at the barbershop next store said that the sandwich to try first is the Manhattan hero so that was exactly what I went with along with a side of buffalo wings. I honestly didn’t know what to expect so I kept my expectations low mentally and I can say the sandwich exceeded my expectations and is really quite delicious. The Manhattan hero has tons of hot Boar’s Head roast beef with gravy with melted mozzarella on a toasted garlic bread.
The biggest surprise were definitely their buffalo wings with TJ’s Hero own authentic buffalo style wing sauce along with a side of their in house fresh made blue cheese dip. You can tell the blue cheese sauce is made in house since it had these nice huge chunks of actual blue cheese.
I went back again for another sandwich called the Long Islander which is hot roast pork with gravy and melted mozzarella on toasted garlic bread. Sounds good right? Indeed it is! In my personal opinion, I thought the Long Islander was actually better then the Manhattan hero.
I look forward to eventually trying all of their hero sandwiched over the course of the year and recommend that you do the same if you happen to be in the area.
– Great Hero sandwiches
– Fresh ingredients
– Tons of variety on the menu
– Surprisingly great buffalo wings with awesome fresh blue cheese dip (with chunks of blue cheese)
– Friendly customer service
– Reasonable average prices
– Accept cash or credit
– Sit down table is available but limited in space
– They offer 50 cent wings on the weekend
– Unfortunately they do not cater to the early morning crowd for breakfast until after 10am.
Overall, this is a solid place that I give the nod of approval for individuals who are looking for a hero. Everything is always fresh and delicious. Go ahead and give TJ’s Hero shop a try along with their wings at any of their 3 locations in Long Island.
